Cookie policy

The demo uses only strictly necessary cookies and similar browser storage, so it doesn't ask for cookie consent. This page lists every item and what it does.

Last updated Applies to the public demo only

Template — review with a solicitor before relying on it. Check the lists below against the deployed version of the demo before publication.

At a glance

  • We only use essential cookies: vne_session keeps you signed in to the demo and vne_epoch does a one-off clean-up of old browser data.
  • No analytics, advertising, social media or other third-party cookies, and no third-party fonts, scripts or content delivery networks.
  • The demo also remembers a few choices in your browser's local storage, such as the workspace you last opened. That information stays on your device.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. “Similar technologies” are other ways of storing or reading information on your device, such as the browser's local storage and session storage, and files kept for offline use. The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) cover all of them in the same way.

The demo is provided by VNE Technologies. Read our Privacy policy for how we handle personal data.

The cookies we use

Both cookies are set by the demo's own server (first-party). Neither is used to track you.

Cookies set by the demo
NamePurposeTypeExpires
vne_session Set when you select “Try Demo as Admin”. Keeps you signed in as the demo administrator while you move between pages. It holds a signed token with the demo administrator's account number, a demo marker, an identifier for this demo site, a check value that ends the session if that account changes, and the session's start and end times; nothing about you. Attributes: HttpOnly (page scripts can't read it), SameSite=Lax, Path=/, and Secure over HTTPS. Strictly necessary 24 hours (the demo's default), or when you log out
vne_epoch Set on your first visit after the demo was created or rebuilt. Holds a short code for that version of the demo, so the one-off clean-up of data an earlier version left in your browser runs only once. Attributes: SameSite=Lax, Path=/, and Secure over HTTPS. Strictly necessary 12 months

Browser storage

The demo keeps the following items in your browser's local storage (kept until you clear it) or session storage (cleared when you close the tab). They are never sent to us. Names ending in “…” are followed by the signed-in account's name, which in the demo is always the fictional demo administrator.

Strictly necessary

Needed for the demo to work correctly and securely
NameWherePurpose
vne_userSessionThe display name of the signed-in account, for this tab.
vne_origin_epochLocalThe version of the demo this browser last saw, so data from an earlier version is cleared.
vne_brand_cache_v1LocalThe demo's name, logo and colours, so pages appear correctly before the server answers.
vne_terms_cache_v1LocalThe demo's terminology settings, for the same reason.
vne_landing_v1LocalRemembers that this site is a demo, so the landing page appears straight away.
vne_ws_…LocalThe workspace (a project or the programme) you last opened, so you return to it.

Remembering choices you make

These are set only when you use the related feature, to keep the choice you made. We treat them as part of the service you asked for.

Preferences you set while using the demo
NameWherePurpose
vne_nav_rail, vne_nav_collapsedLocalWhether the sidebar is collapsed and which of its groups are closed.
vne_gantt_uiLocalYour Gantt chart and timeline settings: zoom, columns and layers such as the baseline and critical path.
vne_cal_modeLocalYour Team calendar view (month, week or agenda).
vne_mw_…, vne_mw_ack_…, vne_mw_seen_…Local and sessionMy Workplace settings, the items you acknowledged and what is new since your last visit.
vne_seen_…, vne_assignseen_…, vne_notifread_…LocalWhich notifications and assignments you have already seen or read.
vne_notifprefsLocalNotification preferences, when they can't be saved on the server.
vne_demo_brand_v1, vne_demo_terms_v1LocalBranding or terminology changes you preview in the demo. They apply in your browser only and are removed at the next reset.

The offline edition

If you open the toolkit's files directly, without a server, the demo runs entirely in your browser and also uses vne_demo, vne_demo_unlocked (session storage) to open the demo, vne_demo_multi_v1 (local storage) to hold the demo programme on your device, and vne_demo_reset_key to reset it daily.

Offline files

The demo installs a service worker that keeps a copy of the application's own files (scripts, styles, fonts and icons) in your browser's cache, named vne-pmo-…, so pages load quickly and the app can open when your connection drops. It never stores the demo's data or anything you type, and it never contacts another website.

How to clear them

You can remove the demo's cookies and storage at any time:

  • Log out from the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar to delete the sign-in cookie straight away.
  • Clear site data in your browser's settings. In Chrome and Edge, select the icon to the left of the address bar, then Cookies and site data, then Manage on-device site data; in Firefox, Settings, then Privacy and security, then Cookies and site data; in Safari, Settings, then Privacy, then Manage website data.
  • Use a private window: everything is deleted when you close it.

If you block the vne_session cookie, you won't be able to sign in to the demo. Blocking browser storage may stop some preferences being remembered.

Changes and contact

We will update this page, and the “Last updated” date, whenever the cookies or storage the demo uses change. Questions: privacy@vne.example.

Demo data resets every day at 00:00 UK time. The reset doesn't change the cookies in your browser; it restores the demo's shared data.
